The 2nd BPD Sponsored International Conference will be held in South Africa between July 9-22, 2019. This trip is open to all supporters of Social Work, Social Work education, family and friends. The itinerary includes stops in Johannesburg, Pretoria, Durban and Cape Town. In addition to conference events hosted by local universities, there will be opportunities to see local attractions, shop and network with likeminded people.

Itinerary

Tuesday, July 9th- Depart to South Africa on South African Airways nonstop

Wednesday, July 10th- Arrive in Johannesburg. Airport meeting & transfer to hotel in Sandton. During the afternoon enjoy a city tour and visit to the craft markets, Soweto and Apartheid museum tour.

Thursday, July 11th- AM: Educational Activities in Johannesburg; PM: Welcome reception with South African host.

Friday, July 12th- AM: Transfers to Pretoria; PM: Activities to be Determined

Saturday, July 13th- Transfer to the airport for flight to Durban. In the afternoon, visit Shakaland and experience Zulu culture and customs at the largest Zulu Kraal in Zululand. See the artistry that goes into spear, shield, beadwork, pot making and building of huts.

Sunday, July 14th- Visit Hluhuwe-Umfolozi Park, famous for its white rhino conservation program. The reserve is home to 84 species of game, including the Big 5.

Monday, July 15th- Activities to be determined

Tuesday, July 16th- AM: Transfer to the airport and flight to Cape Town. Airport pickup and transfer to Southern Sun Waterfront. Afternoon activities will include a Cape Point tour visiting Camps Bay, Chapmans Peak and Cape Point Nature Preserve. Return to Cape Town via Simon's Town, Fish Hock and Muizenburg.

Wednesday, July 17th- Activities to be determined

Thursday, July 18th- AM: Activities to be determined; PM: Township Cultural Tour, including visits to Bo-Kaap Malay Quarter, District Six, Khayelitsha and the Philanni Empowerment Center.

Friday, July 19th- Wineland Tour with a visit to Paarl, wine tasting and cellar tour at one of the estates.

Saturday, July 20th- Visit Franschhoek and Stellenbosch, the second oldest town in South Africa.

Sunday, July 21st- Transfer to the airport for return flight on South African Airways.

Monday, July 22nd- Arrivals in New York

Please download and complete the personal information form for each traveller. Deposit payments are due at the time of form submission. All registration forms and deposits are due to BPD at 1701 Duke Street, Suite 200, Alexandria, VA 22314 by July 30, 2018. Individuals will be invoiced for installments for remaining payments in accordance to the payment schedule posted on this website.

Costs

There are two options for this trip. The first option includes airfare arranged by our travel agent, Accenting Africa. The second option is based on participants arranging their own transportation to/from South Africa.

Both options include airline transfers within South Africa, daily meals, hotel accommodations, sightseeing with an English-speaking guide, taxes and service charges.
